One of the stars of the upcoming live television event The Passion, Trisha Yearwood (who plays Mary, mother of Jesus) has come under fire from many people for a photo nobody would consider "controversial" - yet that's exactly what some people are making it out to be.

Yearwood posted a status update addressing the concerns many fans expressed in the comments under a profile photo uploaded to Facebook on Thursday.

The photo (pictured below) shows Trisha Yearwood with hair and makeup done, but nearly expressionless - just looking straight ahead. The photo was posted as a depiction of her "in character" as Mary, but many fans are expressing their displeasure with her lack of a smile.

Yearwood is almost always seen in good spirits and has a bright, upbeat demeanor that her fans obviously adore. To that point, Yearwood tries to clear up some of the confusion about the caption-less photo.

"Yesterday I posted a new profile photo taken as I prepare for my upcoming role in The Passion," Yearwood begins. "I do read my Facebook comments, and mixed in with your words of support there were many that asked where my smile was."

The singer continues on, expressing that she appreciates how directly people can communicate on the social media site, and urges her fans to be mindful of what they are posting to other's walls.

"As you know, I love sharing my hopes, laughs, friends, and family recipes here always. That will never change. This picture of me is a little different because I am "in character" but it's something I wanted to share with all of you and hope you'll join me on March 20 when The Passion airs on FOX."

Many of the comments on her open words to fans speak in waves of support for the singer and her upcoming endeavors and fans issue incredible praise for the photo, while many others on her photo unfortunately were less kind.

What do y'all think of this situation that has arisen between this country star and her fans over a photo? Let us know in the comments!
