Joey Martin Feek, 40, passed away yesterday (March 4) following a battle with cervical cancer. Her husband has graciously shared their cancer journey through his blog, This Life I Live. Over the past year, Rory has shared their good days and bad along with emotional videos and candid photos. He also shared details of conversations the couple had regarding the end of Joey's life.
In November, shortly after receiving her terminal cancer diagnosis, Joey began making plans for her funeral. One of her requests was that a simple wooden box with a cross on top be made using trees from their Tennessee farm.
“And find a good spot in the family cemetery in the field behind our house, where we put your mama’s ashes last year… with room enough beside my headstone for you to join me someday… in God’s time," Joey requested.
So, Rory will be fulfilling his wife's wishes as he takes her back to their beloved Tennessee farmhouse to lay her to rest.
"After four-and-a-half months in Indiana, we will soon be back home in Tennessee. Me, and our little one, with our older daughters. It’s hard for me to imagine being there without Joey, but at the same time… it is where she wants us to be. It’s where she will be… She’s gonna be in the mint growing beside our back deck, the sweet-corn frozen in our freezer and a million other places that her hand and heart has touched around our little farmhouse and community. Joey will still be with us. Everywhere," Rory wrote yesterday.
A statement from Joey+Rory's manager states that Joey will be laid to rest in a private funeral service. The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to Joey and Indy at P.O. Box 5471 Vancouver, WA 98668.
Continue to pray for Joey's family in the coming weeks.
