One of the most moving tributes to Joey Feek came from '90s super star Neal McCoy. McCoy is known as one of the nicest guys in the business with a heart the size of his home state. His Facebook post to Joey Feek's family is proof that the singer is as compassionate as he is talented. In the video posted to his Facebook page, McCoy pays tribute to Joey and Rory's love story as well as Joey's faith. The "No Doubt About It" singer closed the video by singing the beloved Christian hymn "His Eye Is On The Sparrow."
The hymn was penned in 1905 by Canadian-American writer Civilla Martin who was inspired to write the tune after meeting a couple who was enduring severe physical hardships.
"Early in the spring of 1905, my husband and I were sojourning in Elmira, New York. We contracted a deep friendship for a couple by the name of Mr. and Mrs. Doolittle—true saints of God. Mrs. Doolittle had been bedridden for nigh twenty years. Her husband was an incurable cripple who had to propel himself to and from his business in a wheel chair. Despite their afflictions, they lived happy Christian lives, bringing inspiration and comfort to all who knew them," Martin wrote. "One day while we were visiting with the Doolittles, my husband commented on their bright hopefulness and asked them for the secret of it. Mrs. Doolittle's reply was simple: 'His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.'"
The beautiful song is a staple of Christian hymn books and has been recorded by many artists including Dottie West, Whitney Houston, Marvin Gaye, and Mahalia Jackson whose recording of the song was honored with the Grammy Hall of Fame Award in 2010.
