Zac Brown Celebrates His Family’s Rich History In New Song ‘Grandma’s Garden’

We’ve known about the upcoming compilation album called Southern Family for some time now, and we’ve even heard a few of the tracks, such as Miranda Lambert‘s “Sweet By and By” and her boyfriend Anderson East‘s “Learning.” But those tracks have left us wanting more, and luckily Zac Brown just released his song that is featured on the album. 

Southern Family is being produced by Dave Cobb, who also co-produced Chris Stapleton‘s highly successful album, Traveller. The album, which features musical artists with southern backgrounds, celebrates southern culture and the artists’ memories of growing up in it. 

Released on March 4, Brown’s track on the album is called “Grandma’s Garden.” For the song, Brown crafts a new sound by leaving his normal band behind and replaces it with softer, string instruments.

The slow song celebrates an important figure in Brown’s family history, his grandmother, and how she planted the seeds for their family. Brown conveys this message through the image of his grandmother’s beloved garden:

“She’d say, ‘I love to watch the seeds I’ve planted/Grow up into what they oughta be’/ Oh, I thought she was talking about tomatoes/But she was talking about her family.”

As Brown continues on, he gives his grandmother the credit for helping their family grow and remain strong throughout the years, singing “Grandma’s love is what made Grandma’s garden grow.“

The song is a sweet, sentimental tune, making it an easy listen that allows you to focus on the meaning of the words. You can listen to “Grandma’s Garden” in the clip below.

Southern Family, along with Brown’s new track, is set for release on March 18.
