As one of Elvis Presley's most recognizable songs, "Heartbreak Hotel" has been covered by a number of artists in multiple genres. But one unexpected cover performance came from Grammy Award-winning country artist, Lynn Anderson.
During an appearance on a television show, the host played a clip of Anderson offering her own take on Presley's iconic song. When Presley released "Heartbreak Hotel," in 1956 it soared up the charts, and held on to the top spot on the Billboard Top 100 for seven weeks. The song played such an important role in music history that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame included it in its list of 500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll.
Not many female singers have covered "Heartbreak Hotel," and Anderson definitely set the bar high for any who wants to in the future. From the start of her performance it was clear that Anderson was engaged in the song, as she started clapping and stomping along to the beat.
Anderson delivered a distinctly country version of the song, and the crowd absolutely loved it. It seems that Anderson fed off of the crowd's energy, because she couldn't wipe the smile off her face the whole time she sang. By the time she belted out the final, long note at the end, you can imagine the crowd's excited response.
Tune in below to watch Anderson's high-energy performance of "Heartbreak Hotel."
We would have loved to have been in the audience for that performance!
