Merle Haggard's youngest son, Ben, continues to prove that musical talent runs in the family. At only 23 years old, Ben has already been performing in his father's band, The Strangers, for the past 8 years, and is currently the lead guitarist.
In addition to being a talented musician, Ben is also a singer. He often shares short clips singing some of his dad's biggest hits, but surprised fans one day when he chose to cover Keith Whitley's, "Don't Close Your Eyes."
"Don't Close Your Eyes" is one of Keith's most memorable songs, and it claimed the top spot on the Billboard country chart following its release. The song was such a success that Billboard later went on to name it as the number one country song of the year for 1988.
Ben wrote a simple caption for the first of two videos he shared of his performance saying Keith "was gone too soon." While strumming along on his acoustic guitar, Ben's smooth voice glides over the words in the song. The control he has of his voice is astounding, and he has an unmistakably classic country sound.
Between Ben's skilled guitar playing and breathtaking vocals, you may find yourself swooning a little bit over his cover of Keith's classic song! Tune in to the clips below to check it out.
