During an event that honored the truly talented country legend, Randy Travis, his wife, Mary Davis-Travis revealed some startling facts about his 2013 stroke...
Being inducted into Nashville's Country Music Hall of Fame was an incredible moment in history for both Randy and country music, as it may not have ever happened.
In 2013, the Grammy Award winner suffered a massive stroke that nearly claimed his life, and according to Us Weekly, it was during the months that shortly followed that Mary Davis-Travis had to make one of the toughest decisions of her life.
Three years ago, Mary Davis-Travis sat in the hospital faced with an impossible decision she didn't want and the news doctors gave her was breaking her heart.
"Go ahead and pull the plug," the doctors told Mary. "They really said there was no hope," she admitted.
But the love that she shared with her husband sparkled inside of her and drew her a different direction...
"I knew that he had had a little talk with Jesus, because he squeezed my hand and a little tear fell down," she continued. "...and I said, 'Baby, you've got to give me some more fight.'"
From that moment she knew that he would give it his all and take back his life from the effects of the stroke. She had faith, hope, and love. Now, the country singer is making public appearances, speaking, and walking more than anyone ever believed would be possible.
In a 2014 interview, Mary opened up about how positive the singer was about his rehabilitation and said that "he wakes up with a smile on his face" and "he goes to bed with a smile on his face".
"He inspires me daily," she told WFAA.
What an amazing story she shared with so many people who have been touched by his incredible music over the years and what an honor it was for them to share the moment of his induction, too!
