For the last several years, Kelly Clarkson has been taking audience requests at her live shows.

Over the years we have seen her perform some absolutely incredible cover songs. From Patsy Cline to Dolly Parton to Bonnie Raitt to Martina McBride, Clarkson has paid tribute to just about all the female country greats.

One of our favorite covers she’s ever done is Trisha Yearwood’s “Walkaway Joe.” Clarkson’s version is a bit faster than Yearwood’s original, but it’s still so good.

As she introduced the song, Clarkson looked like she was getting a little nervous.

“If I screw this song up, you have no idea,” she said. “This woman is my favorite singer in the entire world. Her voice is like crystal and I’m sweating so much, I’m gonna cover her song, I can’t believe I’m gonna do it. Anybody like Trisha Yearwood here?”

The crowd went absolutely wild just at the mention of Yearwood’s name! No wonder Clarkson sounded nervous!

“Her voice was straight from God,” she stated before the musical intro began. As she started singing, it was as if it were the first time we were hearing this song. Both versions are so different, but also so incredibly good.

Clarkson is extremely talented and keeps on validating our high opinions of her.

“Walkaway Joe” was first released by Yearwood in 1992 and The Eagles’ Don Henley famously provided background vocals. The song reached number two on the Billboard country charts and starred a young Matthew McConaughey in the video.
