Carrie Underwood Fights Back Tears During ‘Idol’ Finale Performance

It was an emotional night for American Idols of the past and present. But it was an especially sentimental night for those whose careers took off after their appearance on the show. 

Prior to last night’s grand finale, Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood took to Twitter to pay homage to the show that gave her career a boost and warned fans that she was going to be emotional. 

I can’t believe I’m here at the @AmericanIdol farewell. It’s been an incredible run! Thank you for season 4! I know I’m gonna cry tonight…

Underwood appeared early during American Idol‘s final show and performed a rousing duet with fellow country star Keith Urban. She followed the duet up with a stunning performance of her own hit song “Something in the Water” from her 2014 Greatest Hits album. Toward the last verse of the song, Carrie’s voice broke slightly and it looked as if she was tearing up. We don’t blame her, though. The message of the song and the high emotions of the night made it a powerful performance to watch.
