Being in the entertainment industry can be hard on relationships. For Carrie Underwood, one of country music’s biggest stars, the pressure is even more intense. The new mom is learning how to juggle her career, parenthood, and her marriage to professional hockey player Mike Fisher.

PEOPLE caught up with Underwood at the 22nd Annual Muhammad Ali Celebrity Fight Night in Phoenix, Arizona, on Saturday and asked her how she and Fisher make their marriage work.

“Sometimes you have to make more of an effort to be with each other because it’s really easy to put all of your time and energy into your baby,” the 33-year old said.

“It’s been — not challenging, but just something that we’ve really just trying to be mindful of and try to make time for each other. We’re planning a vacation right now — we need it!”

Underwood also took time to brag on the other love of her life…son Isaiah.

“He’s the best thing. I never really knew what it was like to love something or someone unconditionally until I had him. He’s so sweet and so smart. He’s a little sponge just growing and learning every day. He’s just the best thing,” she said.

Just a few weeks ago, little Isaiah made a rare public appearance as he joined mom Carrie to celebrate Mike Fisher’s 1000th NHL game. See the adorable video below of the sweet family honoring Fisher’s career milestone.
