Trace Adkins Embraces His Inner Outlaw In Adrenaline-Packed Movie Trailer With Kris Kristofferson

The Western is one of the most-beloved movie genres of all time. After experiencing peak popularity in the era of stars such as John Wayne, Western films aren’t as common these days, but they’ve never gone away completely.

So, who better to help the Western make a comeback than two major country artists? 

Trace Adkins and Kris Kristofferson have signed on to star in a new Western film called Traded, which will be released in a handful of cities on June 10. The film is set in 1883 Kansas, and according to the trailer, it looks as though it will feature all of the classic elements that make for a good Western: a damsel in distress, saloon scenes, and of course, a shoot out. 

Adkins plays a ruthless character named Ty Stover, while Kristofferson plays a barkeeper named Billy. Kristofferson’s character ends up befriending the film’s main character, Clay, a sharpshooter who is on a mission to find his daughter after she is kidnapped by one of his old enemies.

The recently-released trailer for the film is packed full of intense, adrenaline pumping moments. One portion of the clip shows Adkins’ character with blood all over his face, while another shows Kristofferson’s character shooting a pistol straight up into the air.

Director Timothy Woodward Jr. said that watching Kristofferson at work was his favorite part of filming Traded. 

“The highlight, obviously, for myself and the entire cast and crew was to watch a true legend, Kris Kristofferson,” he said in an interview with The Boot.

Traded, like most Westerns, is all about the battle between good and evil. Much like the film he stars in, Adkins’ newest single also deals with the same conflict. Called “Jesus and Jones,” the song explores the friction between the good and bad sides of a person’s life. No matter how hard they try to be more like Jesus, they always find themselves turning back to Jones.
