Last night (May 1), Los Angeles was flooded with country music stars. The American Country Countdown Awards were held at The Forum in LA and a few familiar faces were not in the audience.
A couple people that were absent from all the fun were Garth Brooks and his lovely wife, Trisha Yearwood. Brooks was nominated for Touring Artist of the Year along with Kenny Chesney, Luke Bryan, Shania Twain and Zac Brown Band.
He was not in attendance because he was playing a show in Des Moines, Iowa on his record-breaking world tour.
In the middle of his concert, Yearwood stopped the performance, and Brooks did not know what was going on!
"You don't know this, but there's an awards show goin' on right now in LA called the American Country Countdown Awards," she tells a dumbfounded Brooks. "And Touring Artist of the Year just went to Garth Brooks!"
The audience erupted in applause and cheer as Brooks took of his cowboy hat, stunned. It took a moment for him to realize what was actually happening!
He thanked his fans on Facebook saying, "What a sweet surprise tonight!!! Big thanks to God, the people, and the American Country Countdown Awards #ACCAs. If I take myself out of it, it will be easier to say...this band and crew is the hardest working band and crew that has ever toured...EVER. Just over 40 cities, over 200 shows, and over 4 million tickets. They deserve the recognition. As for me, I am just proud that the 'biggest tour in the world' is under the flag of country music...where it belongs...with the greatest fans on the planet."
Brooks deserves this award, seeing as his tour has been going on for almost two years and he sells out in just minutes! He is so in-demand that he plays between 2-6 shows in each city and adds more shows all the time!
