On Sunday night (May 1), Carrie Underwood received the American Country Countdown Award for Female Vocalist of the Year and dedicated it to 10-year-old Isley Thibodeaux.
Thibodeaux attended Underwood's April 24th concert in Lafayette, Louisiana with her mom. According to a local ABC news affiliate, a man with "two prior drunken driving arrents has been arrested for allegedly causing a crash that killed" Thibodeaux. The crash also injured three other people.
A local radio DJ, Jude Walker, told Taste of Country that he reached out to Underwood's team and she was devastated when she heard the news. She sent flowers to the funeral home and asked if there were any planned fundraisers.
Thibodeaux was in fifth grade at St. Bernard School and according to her obituary, her classmates served as honorary pallbearers. The entire school was closed the day of her funeral so students and teachers could attend.
Fundraisers for the family have yet to be announced, but according to KATC-TV, an account at Mid-South Bank has been set up under the name "In Memory Of Isley Thibodeaux".
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.
