As one popular country group prepared to perform at The Topeka Performing Arts Center, they were surprised by a few unexpected guests.

On Monday night (May 2), country a cappella group Home Free arrived in Topeka, Kansas for a concert, when they discovered it was being picketed by the Westboro Baptist Church. The unaffiliated Baptist church is known for picketing major events such as concerts. Centered in Topeka, the Westboro Baptist Church pickets in the city every day, especially when a concert is held in town.

According to Home Free's manager, Luke Pierce, who spoke with Country Rebel, the church often protests concerts being held at the Performing Arts center.

"They protest every show at the Topeka Performing Arts Center," Pierce said. "It had nothing to do with Home Free. We did not even realize that the 8-10 protesters were outside until someone told us."

Home Free tried their best to make light of the situation on social media, posting a status to Facebook about the picket with the hashtag #WeHaveMadeIt. The next morning, they shared a picture of bass singer Tim Foust standing outside in front of the picketers with a big grin on his face.

"Tim thought it was pretty hilarious that the Westboro Baptist Church picketed our show last night," they wrote, also including the hashtags #DontHate and #SpreadTheLove

Home Free received an outpouring of support from their fans, particularly those from the Topeka area. The postive way in which they handled the whole ordeal just proved what we've always known about them...these guys are incredible!

As it turns out, Home Free isn't the only country artist that's been targeted by the Westboro Baptist Church. In the past, the church has famously protested concerts by Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, and Vince Gill, among others.

Home Free certainly isn't letting the picket affect them. They are touring throughout the summer and continue to amaze with their music videos on YouTube. Just last month they released their cover of Garth Brooks' "Friends in Low Places," which you can watch below.

Keep on making great music and singing sweet harmonies you guys!
