The announcers said it best Thursday night (May 5). "He's even more popular than Carrie Underwood tonight in Nashville!"
Of course, they're talking about Underwood's husband, Nashville Predators star Mike Fisher.
After three grueling periods of play, the Predators ended the fourth game of the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs against the San Jose Sharks tied 3-3. This forced them to play golden goal overtime, meaning the first team to score wins.
Each overtime period is 20 minutes long with full intermissions in between, just like a normal game. The Predators and Sharks played THREE overtime periods and with 8:48 left in the 3rd OT period, Fisher scored the game winning goal tying the best of 7 series 2-2.
Underwood, who is currently on tour, was unable to attend the game due to her concert in Green Bay. She has said in interviews that she checks the score of Fisher's games during her wardrobe changes and watches any chance she gets on her tour bus.
"My. Husband." she tweeted of his historic goal. The Predators have never won a Stanley Cup Playoff game in overtime, and Nashville was cheering louder than they ever have before!
Underwood went on to say, "Still soaking up this moment from last night. So proud of my man!!!" via social media this morning.
The team was so excited when Fisher scored, a few players fell down trying to jump out of their team box to skate onto the ice!
The Predators shared of GIF of that moment on Twitter.
It was Fishers second goal of the game. His second came 100 minutes after his first.
