When it hit the news on Thursday (May 12) the popular ABC television series, Nashville, had been canceled, the news was a shock to both fans and the cast. It was made all the more shocking due to the fact that network president Paul Lee told reporters just a few months ago that ABC had no intentions of ending the show.
Even Nashville's mayor, Megan Barry, expressed her disspointment and shock about the show ending, writing in a post on Facebook that the city would be willing to support production for a fifth season. "This is a loss for ABC and for the millions of fans across the world who have grown to love this show," she added.
The decision to cancel Nashville comes at the end of the show's fourth season. Now, the show's season finale on May 25 is set to serve as the series finale. However, if the show's producers have it their way, Nashville isn't over just yet.
Lionsgate, which is the production company behind Nashville, tweeted on Friday (May 13) they are actively searching for another network to become Nashville's new home. The company also encouraged fans to keep tweeting to save Nashville and thanked them for their support.
The Hollywood Reporter confirmed what Lionsgate said, revealing that the company is indeed searching for a new home for Nashville. Even though ABC canceled the show just a few days ago, the Reporter confirms that Lionsgate has already approached other networks about the possibility of taking it on.
Since Lionsgate made their announcement, fans have been actively tweeting at networks such as CMT, CBS, and even Netflix to pick up Nashville for its fifth season. Only time will tell if Nashville will find a new home, but we sure hope it does!
If another network does pick up Nashville, they will have a show filled with talented actors and singers. Tune in below to watch some of the cast singing together.
