Country music has always been known as a storytelling genre, which makes country songs the perfect source of inspiration for other forms of expression. Following the success of Dolly Parton's hit television movie based on her song "Coat of Many Colors," people are starting to realize that country songs contain stories fit for the screen.
Now, a beloved Rascal Flatts song is set to receive the motion picture treatment as well. As CMT's Cody revealed on his iHeart Radio page, the group's beloved number one hit, "Bless the Broken Road" served as the source of inspiration for a film set for release in 2017.
The film carries the same title as the song, and stars singer Jordin Sparks, who rose to fame following her win on American Idol. Sparks will play the part of a young mother who lost her husband in the war in Afghanistan. The Christian-based film follows this young mother as she travels on her "journey home."
Directed by Harold Cronk, who also directed God's Not Dead and God's Not Dead 2, Cody shared that the film's executive producer revealed some of the major themes include "country music, stock car racing and paying honor to our veterans."
No full trailer has been released this time, but there is a short teaser trailer available that helps set the tone of the film. You can check it out in the video below.
Knowing how wonderful "Bless the Broken Road" was as a song, we're sure it will also make a beautiful movie.
