Two of the hardest-working and most notable country singers were blessed when a country legend handed them an item that would forever mark their names in country music history.
After finishing their setlist on the hallowed Grand Ole Opry stage, Montgomery Gentry welcomed two legendary country artists, Little Jimmy Dickens and Marty Stuart alongside them for an incredible moment in their careers.
Just a month earlier, Charlie Daniels had surprised the hard-rocking duo with a heart-warming invitation to become members of the Grand Ole Opry.
On June 23rd, 2009, Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry were officially inducted into the ranks of the Grand Ole Opry!
The VP and General Manager, Pete Fisher, began the induction with a powerful statement to the duo.
"There are many artists...who achieve extraordinary things with their career, but only a few achieve extraordinary things and carry the Grand Ole Opry in their hearts," Fisher began. "These two gentlemen are going to be a part of writing the next few important pages of the Opry's 83, soon to be 84-year-old history."
The crowd roared to life congratulating Eddie and Troy on what surely was one of the most memorable nights of their lives.
Fisher wasn't the only one with high praise for the duo. Little Jimmy Dickens, an Opry member for more than 60 years, also congratulated the pair.
"I know these two men here on stage and off stage. I have nothing to say but this, ladies and gentlemen: I find them to be gentlemen in every respect and welcome to our family of entertainers, we are delighted to have you here with us."
Again, the crowd cheered with excitement and happiness in sharing this special moment with some of the oldest and newest members of the Grand Ole Opry.
Marty Stuart took to the microphone with incredible recognition of Montgomery Gentry, welcoming them to a great part of American history and notating the hard work they had poured into their stunning careers in country music.
