Beastie Boys co-founder John Berry died May 19 at a hospice in Danvers, MA, following a long struggle with frontotemporal dementia at the age of 52.
Coincidentally, Berry shares a name with country music star John Berry. The fact has caused a great deal of confusion thanks to an AOL news story that was posted online. The story shared the news of the death of John Berry of the Beastie Boys, but show photos and video clips of John Berry the country singer.
The 56-year old country star and "Your Love Amazes Me" singer released a statement addressing the case of mistaken identity.
"I am saddened to hear of the news of the passing of Mr. Berry of the Beastie Boys but I felt the need to let folks know I am OK," says Berry. "There was some apparent confusion with the journalist who put together the John Berry news video over at AOL. I just want to clarify that I am alive and well. I'd like to offer my condolences to Mr. Berry's family."
As of press time, AOL still hasn't removed the video or made an effort to correct the mistake. Check out the video below.
