In just a short number of days following the massive tornado that tore the town of Moore, Oklahoma apart, one country crooner restored hope and faith to the residents.
On May 20th, 2013, a massive tornado tore through the town and adjacent areas of Moore with wind speeds estimated at more than 210 mph. In its path of destruction, it left 24 people dead, injured 377 more, and caused more than $2 billion in damages.
The instant country star, Blake Shelton, heard about the devastation affecting his home state, he did not hesitate to act.
"Healing in the Heartland" was dedicated to raising funds and awareness for the losses his home state had suffered and all proceeds went directly to relief efforts.
Once up on the stage, the music superstar was already becoming a hometown hero for his incredible efforts when he did something that left the families in utter disbelief.
He began to sing a tribute to Oklahoma with the song "Home" which he covered on his 2012 holiday album.
Just when everyone was swaying and singing along to the man who hadn't forgotten where he came from, a familiar face walks out from the shadows on the stage singing the next line in the song...
His surprise guest was none other than fellow Voice coach and unparalleled vocalist, Usher!
Together, these two gave every Oklahoman a piece of their heartfelt love to help restore their faith and hope in one of their greatest times of need.
Overall, the benefit concert raised more than $6 million dollars for relief efforts!
