Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry are two country music stars that hold a strong belief that giving back is an incredibly important thing to do, and they have done a huge amount for various charities and groups over the years – including performing on several USO tours!

During their 2006 USO Tour, the country duo visited a huge number of troops overseas while they were deployed as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. They played for them, talked to them, and listened to their stories as they walked around various military installations.

The service members were thrilled to have Montgomery Gentry there and welcomed them with open arms and they knew the duo was bringing an incredible gift with them: a piece of America.

The pair loved their time there just as much as the troops loved having them. Playing shows, meeting and talking with all these heroes was a true gift to Eddie and Troy and that’s exactly why they’ve continued to perform on USO tours and bring a true part of American culture to our dedicated soldiers.

In an interview with Central Kentucky News, Eddie Montgomery reveals a truly touching moment the pair had near the end of their 2006 tour.

Montgomery Gentry were at a military hospital in Germany when a helicopter was announced incoming with wounded troops. Upon the arrival, Eddie revealed, “We were just trying to stay out of the way. They had the boys sedated to make sure they were not hurting.”

“We still had our show clothes on and the first thing one boy said on his way in was, ‘Do you remember me? I was on the front row of your show the other day.'” Eddie continued.

“He had obviously been in a firefight or something, yet he was thinking about us playing for them. Bringing a piece of America to them means more than we even know.

Eddie tells CKN that it broke his heart and he acknowledged how much artists performing and going on tour there means to the troops, adding, “it really picks them up.”

Watch this video the band posted to their YouTube channel of some great moments they had while visiting the troops in Iraq.

God bless all of those who have served, are serving, or will serve our great nation in the future – especially those who have made the ultimate sacrifice!
