Legendary boxing champ Muhammad Ali died last night (June 3) after being hospitalized in Arizona earlier in the week. Family spokesman Bob Gunnell announced today (June 4) that Ali's official cause of death was "septic shock due to unspecified natural causes."
Ali, who suffered from Parkinson's for more than 30 years, was admitted to the hospital on Monday for respiratory problems.The boxing champ had survived a number of hospitalizations in recent years so his family expected this hospital stay to be no different. But, as Ali's condition worsened, his family was called to his bedside where they stayed for about a day before he died.
Ali's daughter, Hana Ali, shared intimate details about her father's final moments in a post on Twitter.
The details of Ali's death came as his family revealed plans for a Friday funeral in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. The affair will include a procession through the streets where he grew up and learned to box. President Bill Clinton, journalist Bryant Gumbel, and comedian Billy Crystal will offer eulogies during the interfaith service. Ali will be buried during a private ceremony at a local cemetery.
