On May 30, Dolly Parton celebrated a huge moment in her life...her 50-year anniversary to her husband, Carl Dean. When Parton and Dean were married in 1966, they never had the chance to have the wedding they originally planned. Parton's record label had asked her to put off her wedding, but she and Dean decided to elope to Georgia instead, that way no one in Nashville would hear about it.
Finally, the couple got the chance to have their big wedding when they took part in a vow renewal ceremony for their 50th anniversary. Parton couldn't stop gushing about the event in the weeks leading up to it, and has slowly been revealing details of the ceremony since it took place.
A press release states that Parton and Dean renewed their vows during a private ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee. Although it was something Parton had looked forward to for some time, she admits it took some convincing to get her mysterious husband to step out of the shadows.
"In all honesty, the only way I was able to get Carl to do any of this in the first place was that it was a great opportunity for us to raise money for some very worthy causes," said Parton.
What Parton is referring to is the fact that her and Dean intend to sell photos from their renewal ceremony in order to benefit charity. Dean has remained out of the spotlight for the duration of his marriage to Parton, so these pictures will offer a rare glance at the otherwise reclusive man.
In addition to the photos, Dean also agreed to be interviewed for the first time ever. Fans sent in questions for Parton to ask Dean, and a portion of Dean's response to one of them was included in the press release:
"My first thought was I'm gonna marry that girl," Dean said, referring to the first time he saw Parton. "My second thought was, Lord she's good lookin'. And that was the day my life began. I wouldn't trade the last 50 years for nothing on this earth."
How sweet is that? We can't wait to read the rest of Dean's first interview, and also look forward to seeing pictures from when he and Parton renewed their vows.
After hearing the way Parton and Dean talk about each other, it's clear why they've lasted for 50 years. This is true love y'all!
