If there's one song in country music that embodies America, it is Lee Greenwood's "God Bless The USA". There probably isn't an American out there that hasn't heard this song. The catchy tune and patriotic lyrics make a person puff up with pride for this country. Lee Greenwood's timeless song will, without a doubt, be forever ingrained in our minds.

"God Bless The USA" was both written and recorded by Lee Greenwood. It was released in in 1994 on his You've Got A Good Love Comin' album. and then re-released in 2001. It charted both times. The patriotic tune was played during the 1984 Republican National Convention. It gained even more popularity in 1990 and 1991 to boost morale during the Gulf War. It seems whenever America is in distress, the popularity rises. It rose to fame once more after the September 11th attacks. Lee spoke about this to The Boot, saying, "It keeps having a different kind of life. I mean during the Gulf War, it was a song of the war for General Schwarzkopf. After Hurricane Katrina, it was a song for life and hope, and then after 9/11, it was a song of unity and rebuilding. It just makes me really proud that I’ve done something for the country and for my family. It’s my family’s heritage."

Lee had always wanted to write a patriotic song. "I’ve always wanted to write a song about America, and I said we just need to be more united," he also told The Boot. We are so thankful Lee gave this song to America. It's one American anthem we never want to do without.

And as always, God bless the USA.

LYRICS BELOW

If tomorrow all the things were gone I'd worked for all my life
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife
I'd thank my lucky stars to be livin' here today
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can't take that away

And I'm proud to be an American where as least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God bless the USA

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea
From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA
Well, there's pride in every American heart
And it's time to stand and say that

I'm proud to be an American where as least I know I'm free
And I won't forget the men who died, who gave that right to me
And I'd gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today
'Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land God bless the USA
