In 1993, Alan Jackson released his first Christmas album Honky Tonk Christmas, which includes a few cover versions of some Christmas songs, but is mainly made up of original music.

Overall, Jackson's album was a hit, with three of the ten tracks charting on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, including his cover of the holiday favorite, "A Holly Jolly Christmas."

Out of all of the original songs on the album, one of the best is called "The Angels Cried," which Jackson recorded as a duet with bluegrass artist Alison Krauss.

The song's lyrics tell the story of the angels who followed the star in the sky that led them to the place of Jesus' birth. Once the angels saw the baby Jesus, they started crying tears of love, knowing what his destiny would be.

Krauss and Jackson's voices make for a stunning duet, as they take turns singing back and forth. They only sing together twice, but when they do, the result will take your breath away.

You can find the music video for "The Angels Cried" below.

This song is so beautiful, and it has made us hopeful for another collaboration between Jackson and Krauss in the future.

LYRICS BELOW

They came from near
They came from far
Following a distant star
To where he lay.

Not being sure of what it meant
But knowing it was Heaven sent
They made there way.

And the creatures gathered 'round
And didn't make a sound
And the Angels cried.

The angels knew what was to come
The reason god has sent his son from up above
It filled their hearts with joy to see
And knowing of his destiny
Came tears of love.

And the creatures gathered 'round
And didn't make a sound

And the Angels cried.

I've often thought about that night
And wondered if they realized that star so bright

Was sent to tell all of the land the son of god
Would soon become the son of man.

And the creatures gathered 'round
And didn't make a sound
And the Angels cried.
And the Angels cried.
And the Angels cried...
