George Jones was always fond of gospel music, which explains why the Possum went on to record his own gospel albums throughout his career.

One of Jones' most popular gospel albums, In A Gospel Way, was released in 1974, breaking into the top 50 spots on the Billboard Country Albums chart for the year. On the album, Jones included his covers of some gospel favorites, including "Amazing Grace" and "Why Me, Lord?"

Jones also included a few original gospel songs on his album, including "A Man I Always Wanted to Meet," which was written for Jones by songwriters Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman. The songwriting duo was responsible for writing many of Jones' songs throughout the years, including his signature song, "He Stopped Loving Her Today."

"A Man I Always Wanted To Meet" tells the story of someone who has met so many great men in life, including Hank Williams, John Wayne, and President John F. Kennedy. But as the narrator reveals, there is still one man he'd like to meet, and that is Jesus.

Jones truly shines in the song, showing of his classic country sound that we know and love. In addition, the song's upbeat rhythm and catchy tune will easily get stuck in your head, even if you only hear it once!

You can listen to Jones' "A Man I Always Wanted To Meet" in the video below.

We love all of Jones' gospel music, but this song is definitely one of our favorites! What do you think?

LYRICS BELOW

I was thrilled to death, the day that Babe Ruth signed my baseball bat
I always remember that, the greatest one of all
When I was out in Hollywood, John Wayne tipped his cowboy hat
And when I got his autograph, I felt ten feet tall

I met the great Hank Williams one night, backstage at the Opy House
He looked down and grinned when I said, "I'm your biggest fan"
And I was there the day when J.F.K. rode into Dallas
I walked up to the limousine and shook his mighty hand

I've met the famous and I've met the best
But there's one man I've never met that outshines all the rest
And He's one man I always wanted to meet
He is the King of Kings and He's the Prince of peace

If I ever get the chance I'll fall down at His feet
He's one man I always wanted to meet
Jesus is the man I always wanted to meet
