What was supposed to be a joyous occasion for all parties turned into a night of tributes to a close friend of Gill's, and Little Big Town's as it turns out.
During an earlier performance, Little Big Town member Phillip Sweet spoke about a man who "had a big impact on their career and their records", but didn't go into much detail.
When Gill took the stage, he elaborated on Sweet's mention of this man.
"He was speaking of a man named David Haley, who was a record promotion man here in Nashville for the last 20 years or more, and he passed away today," Gill told the crowd. "I don't know if [Little Big Town] knows this, but he promoted all of my records that were successful in the 90s. He was a sweet man."
As he welcomed Little Big Town back to the stage, Gill said, "I asked them if they would come out and let us all sing one more song for David as he journeys to the other side."
Once the band played the first three chords to the song, you know exactly which song they are about to sing and y'all better get your tissues ready.
Gill began the song solo and Little Big Town joined him for the chorus. The harmonies will send chills down your spine, but also have you begging for more.
During the musical break, Gill had a moving guitar solo and they finished the song with an incredible five-part harmony.
