At the young age of 17, McCreery masterfully matched Jackson's deep southern vocals in his remarkable performance. The multi-talented singer played the acoustic guitar beautifully while simultaneously pouring his heart and soul into the delivery of the powerful country ballad.
"Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)" was written and recorded by Jackson in 2001 following the terrorist attacks that took place on American soil September 11, 2001. The depth of the song earned Jackson his first Grammy for "Best Country Song" in addition to multiple awards at both the ACM's as well as the CMA Awards.
McCreery won the tenth season of Idol alongside fellow country singer who was runner-up Lauren Alaina, the youngest match up in the history of the show. McCreery became the youngest male winner of the show and the second youngest overall.
