The Carlsbad Caverns are an amazing natural wonder winding 830 ft beneath the desert floors of New Mexico. The opulent caves have names like the Lion's Tale, the Hall of Giants, and the Bottomless Pit, and are also home to the Rock of Ages.
In 1931, entertainer Will Rogers famously said, "I'm glad they gave God credit for these underground wonders."
In May 2006, country legend Randy Travis traversed the narrow winding pathways down to the Rock of Ages, accompanied by a 25-person film crew, director Charlie O'Dowd, and 40 singers from the First Baptist Church.
The acoustics of the underground chambers add a haunting, echoing ambience; the setting couldn't have been more perfect for this captivating performance.
Other songs were performed in the caverns as well, including a stirring rendition of "Silent Night". The stunning footage was used for Randy's Christmas DVD released the same year.
