George Jones - He Stopped Loving Her Today (LIVE)

George jones Songs | George Jones - He Stopped Loving Her Today (LIVE) | Country Music Videos

"He Stopped Loving Her Today" is perhaps one of the greatest, if not the greatest country song of all time. It was recorded in January 1980 and released a few months later in April as the first single off of Jones' I Am What I Am album.

It was written by Bobby Braddock and Curly Putman and hit the #1 spot on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and reached #2 on Canadian RPM Country Tracks. After Jones passed away in 2013, it actually made its way back onto the charts and peaked at #21. Alan Jackson performed the hit song at George Jones' funeral service and it was sung again by Alan and George Strait at the 2013 CMA Awards

"He Stopped Loving Her Today" is a one of those songs that really pulls at the heartstrings. It tells the tale of a man that had never, ever stopped loving one woman, even though she said he would in time. He kept pictures and letters from their relationship, hoping that she'd return some day. The man didn't stop loving her until he died and that was the day she returned - for his funeral.

This is the song that is known for reviving Jones' career and his performance below proves that a man like George Jones will never go out of style and this song will never go unloved, just like the man himself.

He said "I'll love you till I die",
She told him "You'll forget in time"
As the years went slowly by,
She still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall,
Went half-crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all,
Hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed
Dated nineteen sixty-two
He had underlined in red
Every single "I love you"

I went to see him just today,
Oh but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away,
First time I'd seen him smile in years

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

You know, she came to see him one last time
Aww, and we all wondered if she would
And it kept runnin' through my mind
"This time he's over her for good"

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today
