Although there will never be another George Jones, LeAnn Rimes did an amazing job covering his classic song, "He Stopped Loving Her Today" at the Grand Ole Opry.
In 1980, George released "He Stopped Loving Her Today" off of his album, I Am What I Am. The heartfelt song became the #1 song of his career, and some say it is the greatest country song of all time. Wow! The song hit #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, and following the passing of George Jones, the song re-surfaced on the charts coming in at #21.
The song tells the story of a man who never gave up on his love. The man begins with, "I'll love you 'til I die" and the woman told him, "you'll forget me in time" but he never did. He had her picture on his wall, and kept letters she had written him over the years, underlining every "I love you" in hopes that she would come back one day. He kept his word and loved her until the day he died, and when he passed the woman went to see him one last time.
In her beautiful tribute to George, LeAnn says, "This is one of my all-time favorite songs. I think it's the best song that's ever been written in country music, and God Bless George". She does an amazing job singing this classic song, and we think that George Jones would be very proud and honored by her rendition of his song.
