It's gotta be pretty stressful hosting Saturday Night Live as well as being the musical guest on the hour-and-a-half NBC hit show. When crossover country star Blake Shelton hosted SNL on January 25th, he hammed it up for audiences and also showed us he had the charisma and stamina to pull off the double-duty honor.
The overwhelming consensus is that Blake's "My Darling Joan" song was by far the funniest sketch he did that night. The bit also scores major points because he performs the "Joan" - and totally nails it.
The sketch takes place on mock news stationTopeka Today, starring Blake as a songwriter who assists an old widower (played by Taran Killam), write a tribute to his late wife titled "My Darling Joan". The song starts off describing Joan's "sweet and tender smile", and each verse transpires into a dark and non-sequitor roast of Joan, with lyrics about her "hatred for animals", and how he'd "hide in the closet and read the Bible for strength".
The best part is Blake never breaks character the entire segment. It's really hilarious, check it out below!
