Big-hearted country singer Vince Gill, made dreams come true February 2, when he invited fan Joe Hannigan on stage at 3rd & Lindsley in Nashville.
It all started when Joe wrote a letter to Vince and his session group, the Time Jumpers.
"[...]a little letter, just telling them about my experience and that I’d love to be able to have a chance to sit in," Joe explains.
Turns out, Vince was game, and replied to Joe's request.
The long-time Vince fan suffers from hearing impairment, something known as Superior Canal Dehiscence Syndrome (SCBS). But he hasn't always had the condition, he used to have excellent hearing, he even played music and owned recording studios.
"Being told I was going to be deaf, it was probably the worst 6-8 months of my life," recalled Joe, "It’s like an artist going blind. It was like a gunshot. I’d been playing music since I was eight years old.”
With the aid of a special earpiece, Joe walked onstage, welcomed with warm smiles from Vince and the group.
“Vince even made a joke at the end, [about earpiece] ‘We got to get those for everyone else in the band because you sing better than the rest of these guys.’”
And, as you'll see in the clip, Joe sings the harmonies seamlessly. The whole performance is just spectacular.
