Carrie Underwood paid tribute to Alan Jackson at the Grand Ole Opry, performing his emotional hit country song, "Remember When". Prior to her performance, she talked about how Alan Jackson was the first music concert she attended in her youth.
Carrie Underwood reminisced about that time:
"That is definitely part of what led me here because I wanted to do that so bad. My ten-year-old self wanting to sing with or around Alan Jackson if that was at all possible, and kind of in honor of that, I'm going to do one of his songs tonight..."
"Remember When" was both written and recorded by country star, Alan Jackson. It was released in 2003 on his Greatest Hits Volume II album. It rocketed to the #1 spot on the US Hot Country Songs (Billboard) chart and spent two weeks there. The song is based on Alan's relationship through the years with his wife, starting with when they first started off, young and in love, and ends with them looking into the future when they're old, grey, and the children have moved away.
Carrie Underwood's rendition of "Remember When" is breathe-taking. Though no one could ever perform this like Jackson, Carrie absolutely dazzles, clad in a gorgeous, shimmering purple gown. With such an immense amount of talent, how could she not? The lyrics to Remember When are certainly some that will stick with you. This is a must-see country music video!
Remember when I was young and so were you
and time stood still and love was all we knew
You were the first, so was I
We made love and then you cried
Remember when we vowed the vows
and walked the walk
Gave our hearts, made the start, it was hard
We lived and learned, life threw curves
There was joy, there was hurt
Remember when old ones died and new were born
And life was changed, disassembled, rearranged
We came together, fell apart
And broke each other's hearts
Remember when the sound of little feet
was the music
We danced to week to week
Brought back the love, we found trust
Vowed we'd never give it up
Remember when thirty seemed so old
Now lookn' back it's just a steppin' stone
To where we are,
Where we've been
Said we'd do it all again
Remember when we said when we turned gray
When the children grow up and move away
We won't be sad, we'll be glad
For all the life we've had
And we'll remember when
