Over the course of The Voice's nine seasons, there have been many incredible blind auditions, but one that often sticks out is Cody Wickline's.

Wickline, who appeared on Season 8 of The Voice, decided to cover George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today," for his blind audition. This was definitely a risky move, since "He Stopped Loving Here Today" is considered to be Jones' signature song. It was also a number one hit, and many surveys have named the song as the absolute greatest country song of all time.

For his performance of the song, Wickline starts of singing softly into the microphone as he strums along on his acoustic guitar. Just five seconds into his audition, coach Adam Levine feels that he has heard enough, and turns his chair in hopes of claiming Wickline for his team.

Not only does Wickline have the right kind of classic country sound for the song, but seems to have an emotional connection to it, as the camera zooms in to show tears in his eyes as he sings.

It took the other coaches a little longer to turn around than Levine, with Blake Shelton listening extra hard to Wickline's audition. Since Shelton's surely familiar with the song, he probably wanted to be 100% certain that Wickline did it justice before turning his chair for him.

Eventually, Shelton does turn his chair, as do Pharrell Williams and Christina Aguilera. Following his performance, the coaches fight over him, with Shelton saying "What the hell are you even talking to these people for, man?"

In the end, Wickline chose to keep it country, and selected Shelton as his coach. That season, he made it through the battle rounds, but was eliminated from the competition following the knockout rounds the next week, and did not make it on to the live shows.

All of that aside, Wickline's blind audition was so incredible that we're still talking about it today. You can watch his performance of "He Stopped Loving Her Today" in the video below.

LYRICS BELOW

He said I'll love you 'til I die
She told him you'll forget in time
As the years went slowly by
She still preyed upon his mind.

He kept her picture on his wall
Went half crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all
Hoping she'd come back again.

He kept some letters by his bed
Dated 1962
He had underlined in red
Every single I love you.

I went to see him just today
Oh, but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away
First time I'd seen him smile in years.

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today.

Ya' know she came to see him one last time
Oh, we all wondered if she would
And it kept running through my mind
This time he's over her for good.

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today...
