It's so great to see a modern country singer cover a legend like Patsy Cline. So, when Kellie Pickler took the stage during her run on American Idol and covered Cline's "Walkin' After Midnight" she won over thousands of country hearts. Since then, she rocketed to stardom and performed that same song at the Grand Ole Opry, proceeding to own the stage with her exceptional talent.

"Walkin' After Midnight" was released in 1957 by Patsy Cline who, surprisingly, was originally not too fond of the song. It ended up being Cline's first major hit and peaked at #2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. This sad country pop song tells the story of a person that goes out walking after midnight, yearning and searching for their lover and hoping maybe they're doing that too.

Pickler's version is fantastic. Though no one can measure up to the great Patsy Cline when it comes to this classic song, Kellie really showcases her versatile voice, practically making the song her own and entertaining her audience in the process. Check it out!

LYRICS BELOW

I go out walking after midnight
Out in the moonlight just like we used to do
I'm always walking after midnight, searching for you

I walk for miles along the highway
Well, that's just my way of saying, I love you
I'm always walking after midnight, searching for you

I stopped to see a weeping willow
Crying on his pillow maybe he's crying for me
And as the skies turn gloomy
Night winds whisper to me, I'm lonesome as I can be

I go out walking after midnight
Out in the starlight, just hoping you may be somewhere walking
After midnight searching for me

I stopped to see a weeping willow
Crying on his pillow, maybe, he's crying for me
And as the skies turn gloomy
Night windsl whisper to me, I'm lonesome as I can be

I'm out walking after midnight, out in the starlight
Just hoping maybe you're somewhere
Walking after midnight, searching for me
