Dolly Parton is just too funny! No matter where she goes, she brings laughter and sunshine.... and music!
During a vacation to Ireland, Dolly popped in a local pub to relax, but ended up putting on a show for some of her biggest fans! While at the Páidí Ó Sé's Pub, a man came up to her and told her he knew how to play one of her most well-known songs, "Coat Of Many Colors". Dolly couldn't resist, and said,
Hello... and welcome to Ireland! My name is Dolly and I'm here on vacation, and I had not planned to sing tonight. I was going to be entertained but he says he knows my song, 'Coat Of Many Colors' and he asked me if I would sing it.
The crowd was so pleased, and we're pretty sure they'll remember that night forever!
"Coat Of Many Colors" was released in 1971 from Dolly's album of the same name, Coat Of Many Colors. The song was written by Dolly as a memoir of her childhood. The song tells the story of how Dolly's mother sewed her a coat with mixed fabrics when she was younger, and as she stitched the "coat of many colors" together she told the biblical story of Joseph and his coat of many colors. Her mother said, "Joseph wore and then she said / Perhaps this coat will bring you / Good luck and happiness".
The story is simply beautiful, and of course was huge hit, reaching #4 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart!
