The contestants on 'The Voice' hit the stage Monday night ready for competition. Fortunately, the dreaded battle rounds have finally come to an end for the Season 8 hopefuls.
There was a shocking twist when contestant Anthony Riley of Team Pharrell was unable to appear on the show due to unnamed personal reasons. This left judge Pharrell with an interesting challenge. For the first time ever on the hit show, Pharrell was put in the awkward position of pitting three artists against each other, rather than just two. For the unique situation, Mia Z, Paul Pfau, and the incredibly talented 15 year old, Sawyer Fredericks, were put onstage together.
What was most impressive about Sawyer's performance that evening was that he put down his guitar for the first time the whole season and focused on just singing. He selected the Howie Day hit, 'Collide', and he displayed unforeseen versatility. By a landslide, Sawyer conveyed the most emotion in his performance that night, and it paid off with the judges. Pharrell ended up making Sawyer the winner of the final battle round of the season.
