The Van Zant name and Skynyrd are basically synonymous. Ronnie Van Zant was the lead singer of the group before he passed away in the plane crash of 1977. Once the band reunited, his brother, Johnny, took over as the lead singer, a role in which he remains today.
Ronnie and Johnny's other brother, Donnie, also has musical chops. He was the lead singer of Southern rock band .38 Special, known for their hits such as "Hold on Loosely." Since he has such a close connection to Skynyrd, Donnie often collaborates with them, as he did during a 1993 performance in Atlanta.
Johnny surprised everyone in the crowd when he announced that his brother would be joining them for "Sweet Home Alabama." Now this is one performance you won't be able to get enough of!
