It was announced that Toby Keith will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Toby is extremely excited about it.

He attribute his sucess to the stories he has from his Grandmother, who was the person who bought him a guitar as a kid. She owned a bar, which many of the songs Toby has written are based off of, and he spent every summer with her. Toby says that he didn't pick the guitar up seriously until high school, but thanks to the first guitar she bought him, he is at a huge milestone in his life.

“She bought me a guitar, and I learned a few chords and put it away, and came back as a teenager and picked it back up and started trying to write songs. And here I stand at the doorway of something really special.” -Toby Keith

One of the songs that gave him such popularity, was "Should've Been A Cowboy", his debut single from 1993, it went on to become one of the most-played country songs from the 90's.

Congratulation Toby!

Check out the official video below of "Should've Been A Cowboy", the song that started his career and put him on the path to the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

LYRICS BELOW

I bet you've never heard ole Marshall Dillion say
Miss Kitty have you ever thought of running away
Settling down will you marry me
If I asked you twice and begged you pretty please
She'd of said Yes in a New York minute
They never tied the knot
His heart wasn't in it
He stole a kiss as he road away
He never hung his hat up at Kitty's place

I should've been a Cowboy
I should've learned to rope and ride
Wearing my six-shooter riding my pony on a cattle drive
Stealing the young girl's hearts
Just like Gene and Roy
Singing those campfire songs
I should've been a cowboy

I might of had a side kick with a funny name
Running wild through the hills chasing Jesse James
Ending up on the brink of danger
Riding shotgun for the Texas Rangers
Go west young man, haven't you been told
California's full of whisky, women and gold
Sleeping out all night beneath the desert stars
Dream in my eye and a prayer in my heart

I should've been a Cowboy
I should've learned to rope and ride
Wearing my six-shooter riding my pony on a cattle drive
Stealing the young girl's hearts
Just like Gene and Roy
Singing those campfire songs
I should've been a cowboy

I should've been a Cowboy
I should'be learned to rope and ride
Wearing my six-shooter riding my pony on a cattle drive
Stealing the young girl's hearts
Just like Gene and Roy
Singing those campfire songs
I should've been a Cowboy [x4]
