On the evening of Tuesday June 9, legendary country outlaw Randy Howard was killed in a shootout with a bounty hunter who was attempting to detain him at his home in Tennessee. Howard was 65 years old and had a warrant out for his arrest regarding a DUI charge, which he had failed to appear in court for.
The situation began when Howard made the decision not to show up at court regarding his fourth-offense DUI, a friend who offered to drive him to the court appearance claimed, "He said he wasn't going back to jail. That's what he told me".
When the bounty hunter, Jackie Shell, showed up at Howard's residence to take him into custody, Howard opened fire. Shell shot back in defense and Howard was killed in the shoot out. Authorities claim that there is an investigation under way, to determine whether Shell had the authority to enter Howard's residence.
Howard was known as one of country's original outlaws, a movement that was at it's most popular in the 60's and 70's. The movement included greats like Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr., Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard.
The community has come forward mourning Howards death, with Hank 3 posting this on his facebook page:
