When you think of Toby's signature "badass" moment, his song "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue" is the first thing that comes to mind. Toby served as the song's sole writer and released it in May 2002, and it topped the chart in a mere matter of months.
Two tragic events in Toby's life served as the sources of inspiration behind the song. The first was his father's death in a car accident in March 2001, and the second was the September 11th attacks. Following the attacks, Toby sat down and wrote "Courtesy" in 20 minutes.
Toby's father, who was an Army veteran, is also mentioned in the song due to his patriotism and love for his country. Although Toby was initially reluctant to record the song, he was encouraged to do so by Commandant of the Marine Corps James L. Jones. Now, "Courtesy" is right up there on the list of country songs that have made some of the most powerful statements of all time.
