Kenny Chesney Cries During 2009 Performance Of ‘Better As A Memory’

Country Music Is Love

With the help of a loving and musically talented crowd, Kenny Chesney got through what appears to be one of his toughest moments on stage. Chesney’s 2009 Sun City Carnival Tour was a huge success, and as it turns out, an emotional time for Chesney.

Back then, he had made the decision to take a break from touring, and the thought of this during his very last performance was too much to keep it together.

The tour wrapped up at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. Close to 50,000 Chesney fans filled the stadium for his last show. The amazing lineup included the Zac Brown Band, Miranda Lambert, Montgomery Gentry, and Sugarland.

Before performing his song “Better As A Memory,” The King of Summer told fans he wouldn’t be staging a major tour in 2010, but wouldn’t disappear completely. As we know from history, Chesney didn’t disappear and in fact he was making even more music.

“Better As A Memory” was released in 2007 off of Chesney’s Just Who I am: Poets & Pirates album, and became his fourteenth number one hit.

The song’s touching lyrics really struck a chord with Kenny during this heartfelt performance. See why Kenny had such a hard time saying goodbye to fans below. Get the tissue box ready!
