With a new spin on old classics, the compilation of songs on the album If I Can Dream: Elvis Presley With the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, proves that Elvis Presley was more than just the King of Rock and Roll.
Most of the album was inspired by Pricilla Presley's favorite songs. According to Rolling Stone magazine, Presley commented:
"A lot of the gospel songs are very, very special to me because they were songs that were so close to him," she says. "And of course, 'How Great Thou Art' was the finest gospel song that there is."
The authenticity of the tracks are undeniable. That was something important to all involved with the project, while still creating something revolutionary. This album is just another way to keep the memory of Elvis Presley alive.
"If I Can Dream" was originally released and recorded by Presley in June 1968, and is noted for it's direct quotes from Martin Luther King Jr. The song was released just two months after King's assassination.
Accompanied by the legendary Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Presley sounds better than ever. Be the first to listen to the new "If I Can Dream" below!
There must be lights burning brighter somewhere
Got to be birds flying higher in a sky more blue
If I can dream of a better land
Where all my brothers walk hand in hand
Tell me why, oh why, oh why can't my dream come true
There must be peace and understanding sometime
Strong winds of promise that will blow away
All the doubt and fear
If I can dream of a warmer sun
Where hope keeps shining on everyone
Tell me why, oh why, oh why won't that sun appear
We're lost in a cloud
With too much rain
We're trapped in a world
That's troubled with pain
But as long as a man
Has the strength to dream
He can redeem his soul and fly
Deep in my heart there's a trembling question
Still I am sure that the answer gonna come somehow
Out there in the dark, there's a beckoning candle
And while I can think, while I can talk
While I can stand, while I can walk
While I can dream, please let my dream
Come true, right now
Let it come true right now
