Carrie Underwood has brought her fans a blue collar anthem that is sure to be a hit! The song, "Smoke Break", is the first single from Carrie's upcoming album Storyteller and it's setting the bar high. Storyteller is set to hit stores on October 23rd, and will be her fifth album and is the first in three and a half years.
The song is about needing a break from the struggle and grind of everyday life, the struggle of a single mom to a young man's struggle in the world we live in. It's no surprise that the songs opening verse is dedicated to moms, with Carrie being a new mom herself, but the verse catches your attention and leads into a great song that anyone can relate to.
The final verse of the song sums it all up very nicely, "When the day gets long, when the work's all done / When the sun sets, when you need to forget / Grab that cup, fill it up / Sip it slow, and let it all go."
Check out the song below.
She’s a small town hard working woman It’s time to make a living Working three jobs, feeding four little mouths in a run down kitchen When you’re never taking nothing And doing nothing but giving It’s hard to be a good wife And a good mom and a good Christian
Saying I don’t drink But sometimes I need a safe drink Sipping for no harbor glass Let the world fade away Saying I don’t smoke But sometimes I need a long drag Yeah I know it might sound bad But sometimes I need a smoke break
He’s a big city hard working man Just trying to climb a ladder First generation to go to college Instead of driving a tractor Never had nothing handed to him on a silver platter It’s hard to be a good man, a good son Do something good that matters
He said I don’t drink But sometimes I wanna pop that tap Take a swing and make the world stop And watch it fade away He said I don’t smoke But sometimes I wanna light it up And when things get tough Sometimes I need a smoke break
So here’s to you And here’s to when the day gets long Go ahead I understand if you wanna take a load off
I don’t drink But sometimes I need a stiff train Sipping for no harbor glass Let the world fade away I don’t smoke But sometimes I need a long drag Yeah I know it might sound bad But sometimes I need a smoke break
When the day gets long When the words are turning When the sun sets When you need to forget Grab that cup Fill it up Sip it slow And let it all go away
