This is John Denver at his finest, y'all. Here's a rare gem from 1972 when John hosted Burt Sugarman's The Midnight Special and performed his signature song, "Take Me Home Country Roads".

"Take Me Home, Country Roads"  was released in 1971 on John Denver's Poems, Prayers & Promises album. It reached #1 on the Record World Pop Singles Chart and the Cash Box Top 100. This song is known worldwide and is a timeless classic that will never be forgotten. Still loved to this day, the tune paints a beautiful and vivid picture of what home means to John Denver, and many others.

Strumming his acoustic guitar, John executes his hit song perfectly, making us reminisce about our own homes and all the wonderful feelings that place gives us - whatever our version of "home" may be.

This one may be an oldie, but it's still a goodie. Though John may  be gone, his legacy still lives on through his phenomenal songs - especially this one in particular which really provides a sense of peace and belonging.

Beautifully done, John.

TAKE ME HOME, COUNTRY ROADS LYRICS

Almost heaven, West Virginia
Blue ridge mountains, Shenandoah river
Life is old there, older than the trees
Younger than the mountains, growin' like a breeze

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads

All my memories, they gather 'round her
Miner's lady, stranger to blue water
Dark and dusty, painted on the sky
Misty taste of moonshine, teardrops in my eyes

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads

I hear her voice in the mornin' hour she calls me
The radio reminds me of my home far away
And drivin' down the road I get a feeling
That I should have been home yesterday, yesterday

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, mountain momma
Take me home, country roads

Country roads, take me home
To the place I belong
West Virginia, West Virginia, mountain momma, oh momma
Take me home, country roads
Take me home, down country roads
Take me home, down country roads
