Y'all have to love it when modern is mixed with classic, and that's just what happens here when the legendary outlaw country music star, Merle Haggard takes the stage with Toby Keith. Add in the Hag's signature song, "Mama Tried", and it's a recipe for something amazing.

"Mama Tried" was both written and recorded by Merle and released in 1968 on his album of the same name. It hit the #1 spot in both the U.S. and Canada and it won the Grammy Hall of Fame award in 1999. Though the song is not autobiographical, he based it heavily on personal experience from of the time he spent in San Quentin.

When Merle and Toby mix their vocals, it really is a fantastic listen. These two are no strangers to performing together. They've rocked country music with performances of "The Fightin' Side Of Me", "Pancho And Lefty", and other fantastic songs.

Their high-energy duet is something you won't soon forget. With Willie Nelson in the background assisting on the guitar, the trio brings a new level to Merle's classic hit. Get ready to sing along, because it'll be practically impossible not to!

MAMA TRIED LYRICS

The first thing I remember knowing,
Was a lonesome whistle blowing,
And a young un's dream of growing up to ride,
On a freight train leaving town,
Not knowing where I'm bound,
No-one could change my mind but Mama tried.
One and only rebel child,
From a family, meek and mild,
My Mama seemed to know what lay in store.
Despite my Sunday learning,
Towards the bad, I kept turning.
'Til Mama couldn't hold me anymore.

And I turned twenty-one in prion doing life without parole.
No-one could steer me right but Mama tried, Mama tried.
Mama tried to raise me better, but her pleading, I denied.
That leaves only me to blame 'cause Mama tried.

Dear old Daddy, rest his soul,
Left my Mom a heavy load,
She tried so very hard to fill his shoes.
Working hours without rest,
Wanted me to have the best.
She tried to raise me right but I refused.

I turned twenty-one in prison doing life without parole.
No-one could steer me right but Mama tried, Mama tried,
Mama tried to raise me better, but her pleading, I denied.
That leaves only me to blame 'cause Mama tried.
