Toby Keith took to the stage to perform his brand new song, "Rum Is The Reason", on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
Before debuting his new song, Keith had a special gift for Colbert. "I've got a signature guitar," Keith says as he hands him said guitar. Colbert gets serious and strums a chord. "Oh, yeah. Now I just have to learn a second chord," he states and the audience bursts into laughter. Colbert is actually the one that inducted Keith into the Songwriters Hall Of Fame. "You looked good in that cowboy hat when you inducted me, and the boots, so I got you a guitar now," Keith says.
Keith's new song is very reminiscent of Jimmy Buffett. As island sounds course through the auditorium, we soon learn why he believes that rum is the reason. The new song is set to be released off his 35 MPH Town album on October 9. It tells the story of different world leaders and their choice alcohol they consumed as they took control. Except for one group of people in particular...
I ain’t gettin’ much done, but I’m havin’ fun
Sailing on the deep blue sea
My whole body goes numb from a bottle of dark rum
And the sun sinkin’ down on me
Yeah, my catch of the day is tall Cuba libra
Chasin' down with twelve ounce curls
Rum is the reason pirates never ruled the world.
Keith never fails to entertain and it's no different this time as his vocals reach our ears, making us think about time spent on the beach, with a nice drink in hand as the sun shines down upon us. He definitely has a hit song on his hands with this one.
