George Jones is likely one of the most memorable and influential artists to ever have lived. His pure musical talent and unmatched songwriting ability have been a guiding light for country music even through his passing.

Born on September 12, 1931, Jones' family was so poor that he sang on the streets as a child. Jones and his family would often sing hymns together and join in while listening to programs from the Grand Ole Opry

His musical start began in the early 1950's with the release of "Why Baby Why". Hits began flooding out after that with his first No. 1 hit "White Lighting" landing in 1959. By the 1960's, Jones had established himself as a country music staple.

Waylon Jennings once said:

"If we could sound the way we wanted, we'd all sound like George Jones."

This incredibly heartbreaking video shows his last live performance in 2013 at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. A weakened Jones is hardly audible, but gives his all in this final concert for his countless loyal fans, singing chart-topping, "He Stopped Loving Her Today". At the end of the video you can hear the excited crowd cheer, hoot, and holler for Jones.

George Glenn Jones passed away on April 26th, 2013, at the age of 81, in Nashville, Tennessee from health complications.

With a career covering more than five decades, and many hits, Jones is a true country music legend.

LYRICS BELOW

He said "I'll love you till I die",
She told him "You'll forget in time"
As the years went slowly by,
She still preyed upon his mind

He kept her picture on his wall,
Went half-crazy now and then
He still loved her through it all,
Hoping she'd come back again

Kept some letters by his bed
Dated nineteen sixty-two
He had underlined in red
Every single "I love you"

I went to see him just today,
Oh but I didn't see no tears
All dressed up to go away,
First time I'd seen him smile in years

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today

You know, she came to see him one last time
Aww, and we all wondered if she would
And it kept runnin' through my mind
"This time he's over her for good"

He stopped loving her today
They placed a wreath upon his door
And soon they'll carry him away
He stopped loving her today
