Dynamic duo, Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, are a perfect example of true friendship.

For the past 30 years, since their first meeting in 1983, Dolly and Kenny have been the best of friends.

In 1983, Kenny began recording the song, "Islands", originally as a solo. After hearing the recorded version, the producer just didn't think it sounded right. Luckily (for the country music world!) Dolly happened to be recording in the same studio. Dolly was tracked down and asked if she would be interested into turning the song into a duet. And thankfully, Dolly said yes and "Islands in the Stream" was born!

The song was a huge success for Dolly and Kenny, reaching #1 on the US Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, along with #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. In 2005, "Islands in the Stream" was voted #1 on CMT's Best Country Duet of all Time poll.

And the rest was history! Dolly and Kenny continued making music together including "Real Love", "Love Is Strange", and many more!

In 2013 the two recorded an emotional song based on their 30 year friendship, called "You Can't Make Old Friends". The song speaks to everything the two have been through, and how no matter what, their friendship will remain strong

The song's music video is beautiful, as Dolly and Kenny sit together and express to each other how thankful they are for their friendship. Kenny tells Dolly, "We are, I think, 'Soul Partners'. I believe that." He continues, "In this business, where so much is business, to have, to take the time for a moment to just enjoy someone for the person they are, is a great gift."

Dolly responded with, "It's been a wonderful journey. I'm glad I got to walk that road with you." And Kenny ended with the powerful statement, "Out of everybody in the business, she is my best friend.

Now, that, is true friendship!

LYRICS BELOW

What will I do when you are gone?
Who's gonna tell me the truth?
Who's gonna finish the stories I start,
The way you always do?

When somebody knocks at the door,
Someone new walks in.
I will smile and shake their hands,
but you can't make old friends.

You can't make old friends
Can't make old friends
It was you and me, since way back when.
But you can't make old friends.

How will I sing when you are gone?
Cause it wont sound the same.
Who will join in on those harmony parts,
When I call your name?

You can't make old friends
Can't make old friends
It was you and me, since way back when.
But you can't make old friends.

When Saint Peter opens the gate,
And you come walking in.
I will be there just waiting for you.
Cause you can't make old friends
Cause you can't make old friends.

When I am out on the stage all alone
And I hear the music begin.
We all know the show must go on.
But you can't make old friends.

You can't make old friends.
Can't make old friends
And you and me, will be young again.
You can't make old friends.

You and me, will be together again.
Cause we both know, we will still be old friends.

You can't make old friends
Not the way we have always been.
